“Poppy Dreams"
I drew this behind the booth at Ohayocon this past weekend. I recently found out Opium can be extracted to be smoked and used from a type of "Poppy" flower. Turns out, it's part of the serum that's found in the bulbs!
So for the illustration I had this idea to draw the depicted standard art stereotype and trope, "pretty girl with flowers" but in this illustration, it's tragic. Instead of seeing the drug addiction and dependency, it's glamorized and made to look like a dream. It's a theme I enjoy exploring and in having to take a second glance at an art piece to really understand what story is really being told!
- This original drawing will come sprayed with fixative to preserve the graphite.
